SCUM OF THE EARTH Music Featured In Psychological Thriller 'Devil Girl'
February 19, 2007SCUM OF THE EARTH, the band featuring former ROB ZOMBIE guitarist Riggs and ex-WHITE ZOMBIE drummer Ivan DePrume, has announced the completion of a new music video for its song "Beneath the Living". The clip, which is featured in the upcoming psychological cult thriller "Devil Girl", was helmed by the film's director, Howie Askins of Monkey Man Films. Check out the video online at YouTube.com.
When asked about the decision to use SCUM OF THE EARTH's music for the movie, director Howie Askins replied, "Having been a longtime fan of Riggs and SCUM OF THE EARTH, I thought that the band's music was a perfect fit for the subject matter of the film. The band even sings about a 'Devil Girl' in their song 'Get Your Dead On', and the pairing of the two just made perfect sense. We were also able to secure three other tracks from the band for the film so there's plenty of SCUM OF THE EARTH in the movie."
The trailer for "Devil Girl" can be viewed at the movie's web site, which also features tons of still pics, a synopsis on the film and much more.
SCUM OF THE EARTH recently began recording its new album, "Sleaze Freak", at Belt of Orion Studios in Los Angeles. A spring/summer release via Eclipse Records is expected. Metal Sanaz is in the studio with the band, documenting the making of "Sleaze Freak". She's posting clips every day, recapping the day's events with the band on her web site for all to see. SCUM OF THE EARTH recently tapped renowned U.K. concept artist Paul Garner to create the cover art for "Sleaze Freak". Paul is probably best known for his work on everything from tattoo and t-shirt design to movie/music magazine illustration to giant murals and sideshow banners, and co-designing, producing and directing the Gawkagogo Bizarre Cabaret and Theatre shows throughout London and the U.K. He's also worked with Richard O' Brien ("Rocky Horror Picture Show") and Clive Barker. Paul's style peers behind the curtain of a sinister sideshow underworld where cartoon geeks, zombie kids, and unspeakable things from the slab mingle menacingly with the ones that the Scooby Doo gang let get away.
When Riggs was asked about his decision to work with Paul, he said "He's an amazing artist, I thought his artwork looked real sleazy, trashy and basically seemed like a visual embodyment of what this album's all about... sleaze, filth, depraivety, and the dark perversion of the world. The red light district in Amsterdam, has this vibe... in my opinion, it's like the 'Disneyland of the Universe', and 'Sleaze Freak' will be our attempt to bring that vibe to the fans, through the music and the art. There might be some other artists as well..."
SCUM OF THE EARTH's debut album, "Blah…Blah…Blah…Love Songs for the New Millennium", was released in 2005 via Eclipse Records. The CD features Riggs alongside an all-star cast of friends, including John Dolmayan (drums; SYSTEM OF A DOWN),and John Tempesta (drums; HELMET, WHITE ZOMBIE, ROB ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) and his brother Mike Tempesta (guitar; ex-POWERMAN 5000). The Tempestas' appearance on the album marks the first time the brothers have played together on record.
